I was tagged by the lovely Loren from "Minky's Blog" in a Wanderlust Tag. I love reading her blog, she writes so eloquently and definitely gives me a little "wanderlust" when I read all the places she visits, plus I love getting great ideas from her too!
1. Your most treasured passport stamp?
So tricky! Hmm… I’ve honestly loved all the places I’ve visited. If I had to choose I think I’d have to say Korea though because I lived there and it holds such a special place in my heart. Plus, got one of my favourite souvenirs from Korea, my rescue cat Luna, who lives with me now in South Africa. You can read about my Korean adventures here.
2. Can you recite your passport # from memory if asked?
Yup of course, no time to be caught up in a fluster trying to get your passport out your bag!
3. Preferred method of travel: planes, trains or automobiles?
I used to love flying, sometimes I still do. There is just that feeling you get when you’re getting on a huge plane and taking off. Recently I seem to notice turbulence a lot more than I used to and I’m definitely no fan of turbulence, maybe it’s just bad luck, so flying is going down in my books. While you can’t escape flying to most places, I do love a good train journey (provided it’s not a squished one- thinking more along the lines of the TGV here).
4. Top 3 travel items?
- Everything camera- DSLR, GoPro, Phone and underwater camera,
- My Ipod and a pair of decent head phones,
- Sunglasses- definitely can’t live without good polaroid glasses.
5. Hostel or hotel?
I don’t do hostels where you sleep in rooms with strangers but I don’t mind private hostel rooms, plus it can be fun hanging out at a hostel and meeting other travelers. I enjoy staying at guesthouses or B&Bs the most.
6. Are you a repeat visitor or do you explore new places?
I try to stick to exploring new places but I definitely plan to go back to most of the places I’ve visited already again one day. And plus visiting family abroad is always a good excuse to go back to the same places.
7. Do you read up on your destination (culture, history, safety) or do you wing it?
I’m a big researcher, not much winging going on here! I like to know what to expect and make sure I get to experience the most of a place. I don’t want to get there and then find out I missed something. Obviously though you only truly get a feel for a country when you get there and often locals can give you some good pointers and tips.
8. Favorite travel website?
So many to choose from! I love the story of the South African couple "How far from home" Also I've found "Nerd Nomads" to be really useful and have used their help in some holiday planning, and I know sometime (soon I hope) I will use the great travel guides by "CityGirlSearching".
9. Where would you recommend a friend to visit? Name city & why
I'm tempted to recommend Seoul where your senses would be totally overwhelmed, but I think I'd recommend another of my favorite cities, Paris! Having visited Paris many times, I still love it every time and each time is unique. I love the French culture, life style and of course the food. Paris offers so many attractions and unique sights, and it's so wonderful just to walk around the city and take everything in. Plus when you're in Paris you're never too far from a quick hop over to the Alps for a ski session!
10. You’re leaving tomorrow, money is no option, where are you going?
I’m hooked on travelling Asia at the moment. I used to always just be focused on Europe as my bucket list but I think Asia has so much to offer, it’s so diverse! My dream would be to tour the whole of South East Asia, from Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, the list is endless.
Seeming though Loren has already done such a great job of nominating some great travel bloggers, 2 more I would like to tag are:
