My first family holiday when I got back from Korea was a getaway to the Groot Winterhoek. I can't believe this was exactly a year ago already, time has flown! This little trip was too good not to share and thinking about it has left me inspired to plan my next getaway.
“Budget Getaways” is one of my favorite sites to find affordable weekend-aways and is how I came to choose this mountain escape.
We stayed at Coen’s House, a stone and clay farm house, which is high in the mountains and in the distance looks towards the Cederberg. The house is on a Protea Farm which makes for a beautiful and colourful landscape and there are some inviting dams scattered around that you can swim in. The house was lovely and big (sleeping up to 8 people and even our dog), fully equipped and even had a cozy indoor fireplace (perfect for the chilly nights). There is also another house on the farm, Daantjies house, which also sleeps 8 people and apparently great too.
We spent 4 nights at Coen’s House and enjoyed many walks (even some runs), games of Catan, sunsets, sunrises, a few chilly swims and rock climbing.
This city break was much needed and a reminder that it is easy to pack up, go away and explore our beautiful country.
